In August 2009 I acquired a second hand 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. As this had the traditional equatorial mount it needed a fixed post to put it on so that it was aligned every time it was set up. This required a significant amount of engineering and these photos show the sequence of works needed to install it. The result could never be as good as modern computer driven alt-azimuth mounts but it is good enough for my purposes and at a minimal cost compared to some more serious arrangements. |
